Bands: The Lucksmiths + Ladybug Transistor w/ Fred Astereo
The show was to launch The Lucksmiths' new album, Warmer Corners, which will be available on Monday, April 4th. They had their friends, The Ladybug Transistor, from Brooklyn, NY, who I was very excited to see (I always remember them as "featured" on my favourite film, High Fidelity). I had to miss Fred Astereo due to a previous commitment but I arrived just in time for The Ladybug Transistor's set.
The 3-piece outfit were joined by 3/4 of The Lucksmiths and played such a good set including one of my favourites from them, Song For The Ending Day, from their self-titled album. People were sitting down during the set and mesmerised by the band's beautiful sound. A really great set.
The Lucksmiths were on next and what I love about the band is that the lead singer is also the drummer, and sings whilst standing/jamming the drums and makes use of the floor tom than having a bass drum, which to me, is amazing. They played a lot of tracks from their new album, Warmer Corners, including their catchy new single, The Chapter In Your Life Entitled San Francisco. They also played some old favourites including a personal favourite of mine, T-Shirt Weather.
Highlights: People waltzing/dancing to all their songs. The bass guitar's "A" string got broken during a funky bass solo moment! The band doing cute, quirky jokes. After the show, I love the band more than ever and if you ever get to see them live, you won't regret the experience.
Feelgoodpop. Mellow. Amazing. One of the best gigs I've been in awhile.
